Resist

I've been thinking a lot about resistance. We are under assault with horrific news daily, and our fascist leadership is trying to overwhelm and shut us down. They want us to give in; they want us to assimilate; they want us to give up. Disrespectfully, fuck that. This is our country, just as much as it is theirs. We need to resist, but what does that look like? I will not pretend to have all the answers, but art is a big part for me.

Taking the time to make something from your soul in a soulless time can remind you and others that we can create anything. Change starts with imagination; right now, it's not hard to imagine something better. If we imagine and work towards a better tomorrow, we are not participating in today's destruction.

Using colors that spark joy and energize you will remind you that you are alive. Getting lost in the lines, colors, textures, and feelings is a great way to ground yourself.

Using art to point out injustices committed is how we use our voices against this fascist regime. Art activism has a place in resisting.

Gathering with like-minded people will help sustain us. We are not alone, not even close.

If you are looking for a great group of creatives that meet monthly, come check out First Fridays! It's been a breath of fresh air in a really polluted time.

Our Burning Daughters

Doused in gasoline and set a flame

you burned our daughters,

And you put them to blame.

You wrapped yourself in the fire blanket

As you watched the flames sear their skin

“Should have stayed away from the flame”

Burning them in your sin.

Burning them in your sin.

Do you think this is God’s plan?

To allow our lifegivers to burn to death?

That's not God; that’s the devil, man.

You used our daughters as kindling

in your quest to burn progress to the ground

Why do you need to destroy our girls?

Do you think this will keep them down?

It’s only a matter of time before they root down and grow

Combine their powers and set the world a glow

With the whole world ablaze

And fire in their heart

Our daughters will rise from the ashes

All of this anger is where we start.
